''Djibouti is pleased to benefit from the experience and expertise of the UAE''.His Excellency Ismail Omar Guelleh

- His Excellency Ismail Omar Guelleh, President of Djibouti, applauded the preparations for the World Energy Forum 2012 that opened in Dubai. He said the UAE has once again excelled itself in hosting high-profile global forums and extending crucial support to an event that explores long-term energy conservation objectives and solutions.

His Excellency President Guelleh's comments came at the World Energy Forum, which is being held for the first time outside the headquarters of the United Nations. The event will run until 24 October at the Dubai International Convention Centre. President Guelleh revealed Djibouti's plans to switch completely to clean and renewable energy by 2020, dispensing all conventional energy sources. He said the move will not only support Djibouti's sustainable development plans, but also put the country on the world map for its pioneering efforts.

President Guelleh said the adoption and pursuit of renewable energy sources is a current global trend in light of the climate change and energy challenges, as well as the availability of diverse renewable energy resources. He pointed out that the shift to clean energy sources is urgent if the world is to maintain a sustainable environment and reduce dependence on traditional energy sources that greatly harm the environment.

Expressing his happiness and pride on the achievements of the UAE, a sister Arab state, President Guelleh said the success was driven by the wise leadership of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

President Guelleh pointed out that the leaders have stimulated a comprehensive renaissance across all sectors while directing the nation to take revolutionary steps in renewable energy. Highlighting the UAE's status as one of the first countries in the Arab region to adopt clean energy, he said that initiatives such as Masdar, which seeks to make renewable energy a real and viable solution, have played a key role in achieving the UAE's sustainability objective.

President Guelleh affirmed that in generating its energy requirements, Djibouti is pleased to benefit from the experience and expertise of the UAE.
