- Foreign Affairs Minister Dr. Mohamed Abdilahi Omar accompanied by the minister for presidential palace Mr. Hirsi Ali Haji Hassan return to the country after a short working trip to Kenya and Egypt. Both ministers held a short briefing at Egal International airport’s VIP room where they spoke about their meetings with officials from both countries that they visited
Dr. Omar said, “We paid an official visit to Cairo and the purpose behind the trip was so that Somaliland and Egypt to can begin having bilateral cooperation based on wide range of areas.” The Foreign Minister stated that they met with Egypt’s Minister for International Cooperation and deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Arab League officials. Dr. Mohamed Abdilahi further said, “All the officials we met with, we raised with them the interest of Somaliland.
We had lengthy discussions on how the two countries (Somaliland and Egypt) have bilateral cooperation in a wide range of areas be it politics, trade, and industry.” The minister of Foreign affairs further said that they held face to face meeting with Somaliland students currently studying at universities in Cairo and according to what the minister said that they briefed the students the general situation on the ground and urged them to pursue their tertiary education. Minister for foreign affairs further mentioned that they held high level meeting with western ambassadors and diplomats based in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya.
Dr. Mohamed, Somaliland foreign minister added that they spoke with them on strengthening the relations that their countries have with Somaliland. He further said that they updated the ambassadors on the side of government of Somaliland that it is determined to hold the local council elections that are supposed to take place in the country in April 2012 as expected.
