Kenya: Isahakia (Isaaq) community finally to be resettled

- Kenya: The government has at last resettled the Isahakia community in Naivasha after waiting for almost two centuries. They have been allocated 5,000 acres in the first phase of resettlement.

The Isahakia arrived from Somaliland in the entourage of Lord Delamere as porters and have lived as squatters since. The community met in Naivasha to celebrate the good news. Community chairman Ali Faarah said they had received all the land documents from the government.

"Sheeko Kale Keen": Shar Ha Arkin!

- Sheekooyinkii hore ee murtida lahaa waxa ka mid ah sheeko ku saabsan saddex daayeer. Saddexda daayeer oo isu yimi ayaa waayaha aduunka iska waraystay. Markii ay ka yaabeen waayaha aduunku halka uu marayo, ayay ku heshiiyeen in uu mid waliba bal sida ay la tahay u muujiyo. Kii u horeeyay  ayaa labadiisii gacmood indha saaray. Labadii kale ayaa ku yidh, “ Waanu garanay. Waxad leedahay shar ha arkin!” Kii labaad ayaa labadiisii gacmood dhegaha saaray. Labad kale ayaa ku yidh,“Waanu garanay. Waxad leedahay shar ha maqlin!” Kii saddexaad ayaa labadiisii gacmood afka saaray. Labadii kale ayaa ku yidhi, “Waanu garanay. Waxad leedahay shar ha hadlin!”

“Shuuuuu!?”
 ....“Shuuuuushleh u sheeg!”
 .........“Shuuuuushleh war ma galo!!!”

Laas Geel: Heritage world’s best-kept secret

In Somaliland, stunning cave art dating back thousands of years lies in excellent state of preservation

- Hargiesa, Somaliland: As we drive along on the thin layer of pock-marked asphalt that passes for a ‘highway’, a rusty, fading sign directs us in the general direction of ‘Laas Geel’. We are about 40km outside Hargeisa, the capital of Somaliland, a self-declared independent republic that the international community and the government in Mogadishu consider a part of Somalia.

Somaliland’s independence bid boosted by geostrategic shakeup

"Somaliland is nearer to its holy grail (recognition) than even before"

- For nearly three decades, the holy grail of politics in Somaliland has been its quest for international recognition. Somaliland is not its own country — not officially, any way — but it wants to be. It operates with complete independence from Somalia proper, under whose sovereignty the territory technically falls, and it boasts all the trappings of a modern state: a flag, a national anthem, a currency, an army, a Constitution.
