With half of Somaliland children not in school, UNICEF and partners...

Drought, food insecurity, poverty and inequality are some of the challenges that hinder efforts to get more Somaliland children and youth in schools. The education prospects for children in rural areas, and school age Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Somaliland are particularly poor: only 26 per cent of children in rural communities, and 16 per cent of IDP children, are enrolled in primary schools.

Somalia-Somaliland: The Perils of Delaying New Talks

- Tensions between Somalia and Somaliland remain high. The core bone of contention is still Somaliland’s political status in light of its 1991 declaration of independence, which Somalia rejects. Relations frayed in 2018 when troops from Somaliland and Puntland, a semi-autonomous regional state in Somalia notionally loyal to the federal government in Mogadishu, clashed over disputed territory. Somaliland’s deal with an Emirati conglomerate and Ethiopia to manage its main port – which Mogadishu saw as challenging its claim to sovereignty there – deepened antagonism.

Dagaal Dublamaasiyadeed Oo Mar kale Ka Dhexqarxay SNM iyo Faqash

- Waxa hore loo yidhi” Taariikhdu iyada ayaa dib isu soo celisa”, taasi maanta si cad ayey u muuqataa. Haddii ay SNM ka adkaaty Faqash-ta muddo haatan laga joogo 31 sanno (1988-2019), waxa mar kale bilaabmay dagaal Siyaasadeed oo weji cusub leh oo ay soo qaaday dhashii Faqash-tu. Haddii uu dagaal xabbad ahi muddo sagaal sannadood ah uu dhexmarayey taliskii dhiigyo cabka ahaa ee Afweyne iyo xoogagii xaq-u-dirirka ahaa ee SNM, maanta isla dagaalkaasi oo weji dublamaasiyadeed leh ayaa ka dhexqarxay SNM uu madaxweyne Muuse Biixi ka wakiil yahay iyo taliskii Afweyne oo uu Farmaajo ka wakiil yahay.

An open letter to the Security Council, the African Union, the EU and IGAD

We, concerned Somaliland communities in Europe, want to draw your attention to the escalating tension between Somaliland and Somalia. We are concerned because the fledgling authority of Somalia has recently upped its expansionist policy to forcefully bring Somaliland back into the fold of the questionable union as it did in 1977 when it invaded Ethiopia or threatened to do the same to Kenya. Somalia poses threat to the security and stability in the Horn of Africa and beyond. It is frustrating the political stability in Somaliland. We are confident that you, as one of the key stakeholders involved in the peace-making and peace-keeping efforts in the region, are familiar with the different historical trajectories of the two countries. Somaliland has never been part of Somalia, and never will be. The 1st July 1960 dubious union between the two states was never ratified. A few points to bear in mind:

Somaliland protest Strongly The Somalia’s meddling of Kenya-Somaliland relations

Press Statement

The Government of the Republic of Somaliland notes with regret and alarm the undiplomatic actions taken by the Somalia Government in officially intervening in bilateral relations between the Governments of Somaliland and Kenya, as it publically declared in a statement on 1stJuly. As a sovereign nation, Somaliland’s right to engage in peaceful and friendly foreign relations with all other nations is enshrined in international law, and all coercive or threatening measures to deny such collaboration between regional partners not only represent affronts to the principles, protocols and norms on which the international order is based, but does little to promote the peace and security that the region requires.
