Somaliland: Celebrating Independence Celebrating 21 years of Achievement and Progressive Nation Building

''Where ever they are Somalilanders are celebrating, and they have a reason to do so''. SSE

- On the occasion of 18th May 2012 Somaliland Society in Europe (SSE) wants to extend its heart felt wishes to all the nationals of the Republic of Somaliland, both inside the country and in the Diaspora.

The historic day of 18th May 1991 marked the beginning of a new era for the people of Somaliland and indeed for the people of the Horn of Africa; and an end to an illegitimate union with Somalia. In addition to its 3.5 million people, Somaliland has over the past 21 years offered sanctuary to people fleeing violence, wars and famine.

It has become a beacon of stability and democracy and has set an example of nation building to many countries around the world. These achievements give Somalilander reason to celebrate. To celebrating 21 years of sustained progress and political maturation.

SSE wants to congratulate the Somaliland community in the USA which this year is organising one its biggest celebration event. Similar preparations are underway in the UK, Europe, Africa and Asia. Where ever they are Somalilanders are celebrating, and they have a reason to do so.

The historic day of 18th May in not only an occasion to celebrate the reinstatement of Maandeeq (independence) Somaliland has lost 5 days after gaining, it also an occasion to commemorate heavy the price which the people of Somaliland have paid to regain the lost Maandeeq.

It is a day to commemorate the struggle and sacrifices they have endured; and a day to remember the tedious reconciliation processes our wise elders have engineered.

Most importantly it is day Somalilanders with one voice remind the International Community of their aspiration to join the League of Nations.

SSE strongly believes that the recognition of Somaliland as a sovereign state is in the interest of the international community as a recognized Somaliland could play a significant and unique constructive role in the reconciliation of the faction in Somalia and it will contribute to the stability of the Horn of Africa region.

SOMALINDERS EVERYWHERE YOU ARE CONGRATULATIONS!
