Grand Opening for a New State of The Art Coca Cola Bottling Plant In Hargeisa


-President Ahmed Mohamed Mohamud (silanyo) today cut the ribbon to a new modern beverage production plant which is owned by Coca Cola Company in hargeisa the capitol of Somaliland, the new state of the art Coca Cola bottling plant which is the first industrial production plant of its kind in Somaliland.

President Silanyo speaking during the opening ceremony said he was happy to see local investors unlock the potential of social entrepreneurship in the country. He said his government will assist anyone who is willing to invest in commercial and industrial development and that we will endorse closer collaboration with the private sector.

Speaking during the opening ceremony Mr. Nathan kalumba, President of Central, East and West Africa for the Coca Cola Company described the significance of the investment made by the giant global brand,”we are very delighted to be opening this new plant which will offer an opportunity to refresh our esteemed consumers with high quality beverages choices.

Mr. Nathan said the investment will create an estimated 135 new direct jobs and over 2500 indirect jobs, it will also contribute to a healthy distribution and retail sector in Somaliland, and he added “our commitment to the African continent remains enduring and unshakable.

The US$ 17 million investment by The Coca-Cola Company and its partner, Somaliland Beverage industries is part of the Coca-Cola System’s commitment to invest US$ 12 billion in the continent by 2020, starting in 2010.

The Chairman of Somaliland Beverage industries, Mr. Ahmed Osman Gueeleh expressed optimism and confidence about the investment the system had made in the region: “Bringing the production of Coca-Cola brands to Somaliland not only brings the much needed entrepreneurial and employment opportunities, but builds local capability through access to global practice and manufacturing standards, including ISO environmental and safety standards.”

The Coca-Cola bottling plant investment in Somaliland is based on a 100% franchising agreement.
