Ethiopian Airlines to Get Dreamliner; Expands Routes
- Ethiopian Airlines will soon get the first Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft in Africa, which is expected to be delivered next month. The 787 Dreamliner will have bigger windows and better views; bigger overhead bins; higher humidity levels for more in-flight comfort; a quieter, smoother flight; and advanced lighting.
Ethiopian Airlines will begin service from Toronto, Canada as of July 16. The twice-weekly non-stop flight from Toronto will be operated with the airline's brand new B777-200LR aircraft. With this new service, passengers will have convenient direct flights to Africa via Ethiopian's hub at Addis Ababa.
Passengers traveling to Africa from Montreal, Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver, Boston, Los Angeles, Minneapolis and San Francisco will find connections via Toronto using the airline's partner Air Canada. The airline is a member of the STAR alliance and members of Air Canada's Aeroplan program will be able to earn miles on the Canada to Africa route and on any other flights operated by Ethiopian Airlines.
Farther out, the airline will resume flights to Hargeisa, Somaliland this summer. Ethiopian had discounted service to Somaliland a few years ago due to the then-prevailing situation in Somaliland. Now that situations in the country have normalized, Ethiopian will operate daily flights to Berbera, a temporary alternate destination, until work on the tarmac of Hargeisa Airport is completed. Once work is complete, flights will once again be operated to and from Hargesisa.
