Somaliland:Abaarso Tech University Holds One Day Business Seminar


Abaarso Tech University today held a one day business seminar on the role information technology plays in the today’s business world at hotel Mansoor in Hargeisa. Today’s meeting was organized by Abaarso Tech University and funded by USAID’s partnership for economic growth. This seminar is an introduction of new project that will continue for one year and is intended to enhance the quality of modern technology in Somaliland.

The opening ceremony was attended by officials that consisted of instructors from the Abaarso Tech University,founder of Abaarso Tech University Mr. Jonathan Starr, Mr. Mohamed Ali Somaliland expatriate who is Chief Information Officer at one of the top companies in Saudi Arabi,the chairperson of IT organization in Somaliland and other expatriates.

During the meeting the advantages of IT and how it is vital role in the development of a country was converse as each speaker highlighted his knowledge of IT. Somaliland’s usage of information technology is estimated to be 10% due to the lack of experienced instructors in the country’s universities.

The Local universities were called upon to introduce IT courses in their curriculum and recommended that they hire qualified instructors. Attendees of the meeting were given the opportunity to ask questions to the to specialized IT experts who have been invited to the seminar. Mr. Jonathan Starr the chairman of Abaarso Tech thanked the participants of the meeting and praised them the way they have taken part the discussion and analyses.

Finally, Mr. Mohamed Hasan Ali who has tremendous amount of IT experience and who has worked and managed at few of the top companies in America and Canada shared his experience of the industry with the audiance. Mr. Ali who at one time was co-founder of an IT firm in Canada told the audiances how they can utilize IT in their workplaces.
