Somaliland National TV Service Specific Groups By Dualle Farah

- Since the beginning of this year, I have been watched Somaliland National TV. It has very interesting programs. Some are talked Somaliland history, some are demonstrated the Somaliland culture and some are only served the interest of individuals. For example, the TV has been submitted the advertisement of the ALI JERDE Hotel which is a private own business and Dahabshiil Group business. These two private own businesses were advertised on Somaliland National TV regularly. I do not know if they paid it for their advertisement or not.

Ali Jirde Hotel

It looks beautiful Hotel; it has large rooms with decorate the pictures of legend Ali Mohamed Jirde. He was one of the first engineers that graduated from one of the prestigious University in Great Brittan. He passes away (May Allah Bless his Soul). He was well known and respectful person. He was a business man and he had never melt-in with his business into government. I really do not know who own it, but it seems to me this Hotel owned a person who has close relationship with the Somaliland National TV administrators.

As we know, there are hundreds of private businesses in Somaliland particularly in Hareysa area. Why Somaliland National TV provided advertisement only two specific private owned business? Somaliland National Television is a public owned corporation therefore all Somaliland citizens have equal rights to advertise their business by paying to their service. It is not fair for using the public corporation by a particular business people. It looks the national television doing favoritism into interest groups.

I have a doubt if those people are paying the service fees for advertisement; why do I say that? There are two televisions in Somaliland HCTV which is private owned television and Somaliland National television which is a public owned television. The Horn Cable Television’s is advertised the goods and service; it does not care who they are or where they are come from. It cares as long as it gets its fees.

Dahabshiil Group

Dahabshiil Group is not only using on advertisement to the Somaliland National Television but it uses as a propaganda machine. I watched SLNTV last week and I see the real propaganda. Hence, National Television was aired what propose of creation on Dahabshiil Group; the television showed us that Dahabshiil Group donated the new buildings into 5 Universities. Those included Hargeysa University, Berbera University, Burco University, Nugal University and Amoud University.

Those who representative Dahabshiil Group is not only talked the donation, but they have put boosters and other Dahabshiil around the area. This sign is clear to us how Dahabshiil Group is using the public property. I would like to say those who running the Somaliland National Television, shame on you. It is a public owned corporation, it is not private owned. At the same time, it prohibited of using a public property on personal interest.
