Somaliland to takeover air navigation from ICAO


Montreal- A Conference which was aimed at discussing the future takeover of Somaliland government and Somali’s Transitional Federal Government when it comes to their air navigation was held in ICAO’s headquarters in Montreal. This was the 5th-conference and was attended by Somaliland’s Director General to the ministry of Aviation and Air Transport Mr. Ahmed Farah, Mohamed Kamiil Olole Diinle was representing Transitional Federal Government of Somalia and Peter Noad who was senior official from ICAO.

The Conference was held on 28thJune and was chaired by Somaliland Director General to the Aviation and Air Trasnport ministry Mr. Ahmed Dalal Farah. The overriding issues discussed at the conference were that Somaliland and Somali should assume the responsibility of running air navigation under the project of CACAS.

International Civil Aviation Organization was in charge of running Somali’s air navigation since 1996’. The sides at the conference agreed that all authorities in Somali airports must enter into contract with airport staff under CACAS. It was agreed that technical committee should be formed and will in charge of preparing the possible and smooth takeover of Somali’s air navigation from ICAO to Somaliland and Somalia.

The general secretary of United Nation’s special to Aviation of ICAO Mr. Reymond Benjamin held separate meetings with officials from both Somaliland and Somalia and he pledged his promise that he will implement the pointed agreed.
