Brussels Rally “Pushing Somaliland’s Case for International Recognition”

''Somaliland reclaimed its independence from Somalia in May 1991 and despite 21 years of peace & stability, development and democratisation process which saw the peaceful election of 4 presidents''. SSE

- Somalilanders in Europe are getting prepared for their first rally in Brussels in support of Somaliland’s case for international recognition. The rally, organised by the Somaliland Societies in Europe and its member organisations, is a reminder to the International Community about Somaliland’s resolute aspiration for international recognition.

(The Rally will be held on:Thursday 11th April, between 2pm – 4:30pm).
Venue: [Parc du Cinquantenaire, Avenue de la Joyeuse entrée, 1040 Brussels]

Somaliland reclaimed its independence from Somalia in May 1991 and despite 21 years of peace & stability, development and democratisation process which saw the peaceful election of 4 presidents, the establishment of Houses of Parliament and Elders and independent judiciary system, the emergence of political parties and viable civic institutions, Somaliland still remains unrecognised by the International community.

With the Brussels Rally we want to draw the attention of the International Community to quest of the de facto Republic of Somaliland for its deserved place amongst the free nations of the world.

The Brussels Rally will be taking place at a time when the International Community’s eyes are fixed on Somalia and it’s newly formed Federal Government and at a time when Britain once again will be hosting another conference for Somalia on 7th May 2013. Turkey has also announced in the last few days that it will be hosting the 3rd round of the Somaliland-Somalia talks which started in June 2012 in Britain at Chevening House.

The Somaliland Diaspora community in Europe are closely watching these developments and want with this Rally to emphatically stand by their country’s stance on independence and sovereignty as laid in the country’s constitution. We want to send out unequivocally that Somaliland’s quest for international recognition is not negotiable under any circumstances.

The Brussels Rally will, therefore, be an opportunity for the Somaliland Diaspora community in Europe to express their unreserved support to the plight of the people of Somaliland.
